Yellow City is a print series of nine images, taken from original watercolour paintings by Bridget March. Cities around the world are monopolizing on their striking colour themes, for example Jodphur in India, often described as ‘Blue City’; and Hoi An is no different. Originally, the buildings were painted with a limewash used to prevent insects, and the yellow pigment was sourced from local soil and mud, however now the paint is water based. Yellow is also the imperial colour of Vietnam, and there are nine prints as the number is auspicious in Vietnamese culture. Each print shows a snapshot of everyday life in Hoi An, capturing the simplistic beauty that inspired Bridget to relocate here.
